Is FASTag mandatory for all vehicles?

As per Indian government rules, FASTag has been mandatory for all vehicle categories on national highways across the country since February 2021.

The government has made FASTag compulsory for all private and commercial vehicles at toll plazas on national highways. The motive is to encourage digital payments, ease traffic congestion, and boost productivity through faster processing at toll booths.

This makes FASTag compulsory for cars, SUVs, vans, trucks, buses, taxis, ambulances and even government vehicles.
